Polystyrene Letters & Shapes

Expanded polystyrene creates bold letters and shapes for displays, events and feature branding. It is worth considering when you want substantial depth without the weight of a solid plastic or metal sign.

A guide to your options

Large-scale lettering with less weight

EPS, or expanded polystyrene, is made from small beads formed into a lightweight material. It can be cut into larger letters and shapes that stand out in an exhibition, retail display or event setting. The intended viewing distance and surface finish are important parts of the design.

Materials & construction

Unpainted EPS has a bead structure with small surface holes. Its natural appearance can include grey or black specks, so it should not be specified as a guaranteed pure-white decorative finish. A painted finish is the better option where a consistent colour is required.

Choose the finish that fits

Feature lettering

Larger letters that create a clear focal point.

Logo shapes

Dimensional brand shapes scaled for displays and events.

Painted finish

A specified colour where an unfinished foam appearance would not suit the design.

Plan the details

EPS needs to be specified for the setting and handled with its surface texture in mind. Share the venue, display duration and whether the sign will be touched, suspended or exposed outdoors. We will review the finish and support rather than assume an unfinished display piece suits every environment.

Your questions, answered

Will unpainted polystyrene be pure white?

Not necessarily. Unpainted sheets can contain grey or black specks. Specify a painted finish for a consistent colour.

Is the surface completely smooth?

EPS has a bead texture and small holes. The required finished appearance should be agreed before manufacture.

Can it be used as a permanent outdoor sign?

That needs a project-specific assessment. Tell us about exposure and expected lifespan so we can recommend a suitable construction.
